Tears of a Clown

This week on Football Circus we feature: Tear gas gone awry in South America; Zlatan Ibrahmiovic attempting to solve world hunger through the power of tattoos; Lucas Podolski acting as cupid; Wayne Rooney and Stone Cold Steve Austin taking on Kevin Davies and Wade Barrett at Wrestlemania; and a raunchy Faustino Asprilla tweet. We also check out what Mario Balotelli's been upto over the past week and the latest racism scandal in Italy.

Football Circus Clown Quote of the Week
"They kick the ball very well".
- John Terry on Paris St. Germain after their 1-1 against Chelsea

Tear-ible Mistake! Tear Gas Mistakenly Released, Game Halted
Match officials at last week's Copa Libertadores tie between Urguayan side Nacional and Chilean outfit Palestino, were forced to call a halt to proceedings under bizarre circumstances. Despite there being no crowd trouble (there were no fans even attendance), a cloud of tear gas spread across the stadium, forcing an unplanned stoppage of play.
It is thought a tear gas canister was accidentally set off during  a security drill.
Inter Milan legend Alvaro Recoba, who was part of the Nacional team, may have been left teary-eyed even after the final whistle as Nacional lost the tie on away goals, sending them out of the competition.

Zlat's Tatts
Zlatan Ibrahimovic raised a few eyebrows at the weekend when, after scoring for PSG against Caen, he removed his jersey to reveal his newly tattoo'ed torso. His new tatts looked rather run of the mill - Each of them just writing. However it was later revealed that he had in fact had the names of fifty individuals who were suffering from hunger tattoo'ed.
Ibra's stunt was all to raise awareness for world hunger and was done as part of a collaboration between him and the United Nations' World Food Program.
The Swedish striker stated:
"Wherever I go people recognize me, call my name, cheer for me.
"But there are names no one cheers for. If I could, I would write every single name on my body. But there are 805 million people suffering from hunger in the world today".

Cupid Podolski
Valentine's Day was celebrated globally on Saturday and one German footballer found it appropriate to tell the world a love story. Lucas Podolski posted a message on his Instagram account, which was sent to him by fan, Fernanda C. Santana Sontos.
The message read:
"Poldi,
In November of 2014 I was on Facebook when I saw your page & liked it very much. I read one post where you said something in Portuguese, it was funny, so I decided to comment (ps: I’m Brazilian). A German man saw my picture & added me, I didn’t know him but decided to accept so I could find out.. and it all started.
This could sound like a normal story, but actually this is my love history, now Simon Hinsel & I are engaged & are getting married this year! I am the happiest person in the world, so thank you Lukas Podolski because maybe if you didn’t post that message I would never have met the man of my life!
Happy Valentines Day! Te amo Meu amor <3".
'Poldi', clearly chuffed with himself, said:
"I'm glad for being the Cupid of this beautiful relationship, I wish you two lots happiness, joy and longevity. Enjoy your love for the rest of your lives. All the best #PoldiMatch.com #Cupid #LoveStory".

Wayne Rooney to Team with Stone Cold Steve Austin?!
One of the most bizarre Twitter conversations we've ever witnessed took place this week as WWE wrestler Wade Barrett slagged Wayne Rooney, who in turn asked for help from Stone Cold Steve Austin, only for Barrett to challenge the pair to a tag team match against himself and Kevin Davies . Phew.
It all started when Wade Barrett mocked Rooney for a diving in Manchester United's Monday night FA Cup encounter with Preston North End.

He then challenged Rooney to partner up with wrestling legend Stone Cold Steve Austin and take on himself and Preston's Kevin Davies.

Rooney retorted, claiming he would "get Steve Austin out of retirement".

Davies then got involved, joking that training would begin for the even.
Then the aforementioned Steve Austin had his say, as he advised Rooney to "Embrace the baldness".

The whole debacle resulted in some hilarious Photoshops from Twitter users, none more so than this effort...

Asprilla Gets Romantic
Newcastle legend Faustino Asprilla showed the world what  a great Valentine's Day he was having by tweeting a photo of himself surrounded by topless women.
Asprilla, currently promoting his own line of flavoured condoms, turned down an offer in 2013 to star in Italian porn film. Clearly however he has no problem being snapped on camera with naked ladies.
Our version of the posted photo is a less explicit version of the original!

What's Mad Mario Upto this Week?
After last week's excitement of getting his first Premier League goal for Liverpool (the winner in a 3-2 win over Tottenham, no less), Balo has had a far tamer week this week. He did make an appearance however in Liverpool's 2-1 FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace. Super Mario later took to Instagram to dedicate the victory to his side's departing captain, Steven Gerrard, as he exclaimed:
"Ok ok.. Let's try everyrhing to get @stevengerrard to wembley step by step. Yesssss guys ! Yessss Liverpool!!! Supporters great always.. Expecially today. I can smile".

The striker further busied himself on Instagram by posting a video of himself and Armenian-Italian kickboxer Giorgio Petrosyan play-fighting on a train. Awww.
Another of Balo's pals, teammate and strike partner Daniel Sturridge, has been waxing lyrical about the big man this week. When asked as to whether he can develop a partnership with Mad Mario, the England international responded:
"Of course. For me it's easy to play with Mario...and not just Mario, but any of my teammates.
"I enjoy playing with Mario. He's a great guy. I get along with him, and I feel we can have a successful partnership. It's down to the manager and who he selects. But from my point of view, I feel I can play with him or any player in the team because I get along with everybody.
"You have to adapt your game to each individual. It's different playing with different players. So whether it's Mario or anyone else, I'll do my best to make sure it works for the benefit of the team".

Italian Football Story of the Week
- Sacchi in Trouble after Racist Comments
Former Italy and AC Milan manager Arrigo Sacchi has been stealing the headlines in Italy this week, having told Gazzetta dello Sport:
"Italian football is now without dignity or pride because it has too many foreigners playing in the youth teams. In our youth sides there are too many black players".
His remarks have caused quite a furore and after he was widely condemned, he attempted to backtrack. Speaking to the same newspaper later in the week, he stated:
"I'm certainly not racist and my coaching history shows that, starting from Rijkaard, but watching the Viareggio tournament brings me to say that there are too many coloured players, also in the youth teams.
"I only wanted to underline that we are losing our national pride and identity.
"I've been misinterpreted, can you imagine that I'm really racist? All I said was I saw a game featuring a team who fielded four coloured players.
"My history speaks for itself, I've always coached teams with great players from every colour and I've brought in a lot, whether to Milan or Madrid".
Whether his most recent comments will be accepted by the Italian public, or seen as an attempt to save face, remains to be seen.
